Position Overview


As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). In 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting directly to the Project Integration Team the Construction Integration Director is responsible for the conduct of Construction across Darlington New Nuclear project (DNNP). This position is the functional manager for all Project Construction Management.


Key Responsibilities


  • Overall responsibility for the Construction Execution Sequence development serving each Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, & Balance Of Plant Bundle’s
  • Coordinate this exercise across the NI-CI-BOP bundle and sub-bundle with a nominated representative within each area and make sure there is no silo or interface gaps.
  • Define the strategy of execution for the most efficient and effective approach to reduce any risk to the delivery schedule.
  • Define the principles of construction from site set up through to installation by elevation, construction zone, building area, room or other, down to level 4 or 5 activities in the schedule.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Work Packaging process is essential.
  • Develop a 4D animation erection sequence from civil, Mechanical, HVAC, Piping, Electrical hand over up to static test, cold commissioning, and hot commissioning.
  • Manage key interface inputs (design data, embedded or long lead items component information) and interface across the project to avoid gaps or missing items in the construction sequence.
  • Must have an extremely good understanding of the EPSCA/LIUNA agreements, an understanding working with ICI jurisdiction and relationships with all the building trade union leaders.
  • Integrate as input the necessary Design and Fabrication aspects.


Required Knowledge And Experience


  • 20 years construction leadership experience
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as; technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of self-perform trades work, estimating and labour relations
  • Requires proficiency in trades union relationship management skills and solid understanding of union agreements applicable to the work
  • Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry
  • Experience in the Nuclear Industry an asset.
