Deputy Director, Project Delivery

We have big growth plans for 2024 and the Deputy Director, Project Delivery will play a critical role. We are looking for a business leader who has experience managing teams and delivering infrastructure programs, and most importantly aligns with our team’s core values (Safety, Wellbeing, Respect, Quality, Collaborate, and Growth Mindset). This position is based in our North Vancouver office and is responsible for managing a team to deliver a portfolio of electric power Transmission & Distribution projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, safely and with exceptional quality.

Responsibilities:  

This position will lead the delivery of our electric Transmission & Distribution program, including services such as project management, construction management, project controls, procurement, estimation, and safety. The core responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with our engineering partners to deliver a program of capital projects
  • Lead contract management with a major client throughout the contract life cycle including initiation, annual rate negotiations, steering committee participation and ensuring terms and conditions are met
  • Present program status, risks, and mitigation strategies to Maven Executives
  • Forecast challenges in executing the scope of works and implement mitigation plans
  • Assemble and implement annual business line objectives, and manage the business line budget including achieving gross margin targets and monitoring costs
  • Responsible for assigning work to staff, monitoring billability, and actions to respond (e.g., resource management, staff feedback)
  • Responsible for team morale and culture, ensuring Maven’s values are lived
  • Responsible for staff performance including regular feedback, 3-month reviews, annual performance reviews, team training, and structure of the Maven coaching program
  • Initiate new Purchase Orders with clients and complete monthly invoice reviews
  • Responsible for the implementation of our Quality Management Program and Project Management Methodology, including completing reviews of client deliverables
  • Responsible for the implementation of our Safety Program, including reviewing safety plans
  • Initiate recruitment needs and work with HR to provide role requirements and support as needed
  • Support Client Relationship Sponsor to maintain a positive client relationship, develop new business opportunities and associated quotes
  • Provide input to Maven Executives for annual strategic planning
  • Act as Director, Project Delivery for delegated responsibilities and coverage

 

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or equivalent. A master’s degree would be an asset.
  • A Project Management Professional designation and a Professional Engineer designation would be assets.
  • 15+ years’ experience in engineering and project management
  • 5+ years of managing a team of 20+ staff members
  • Experience managing complex electric Transmission & Distribution projects and programs in North America; ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and reports
  • Experience working in engineering consulting environment and providing services to infrastructure owners
  • Outstanding leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent team management skills: able to inspire, provide clear guidance, ensure quality work, implement change management, and thoughtfully guide staff performance and development
  • Advanced understanding of contract management with demonstrated judgment; able to weigh alternative actions and make financial decisions
  • Advanced interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, and writing skills in English
  • Working knowledge of business performance and operations metrics, and understanding of different business functions (e.g., HR, Finance, Marketing)
  • Must reside in the Greater Vancouver Area; able to work from North Vancouver Office
