About the job
Role and Objectives:The Design Manager, under the direction of the Director, Manufacturing Planning and Strategy, is responsible for leading the company’s design and digital documentation of mass timber components & connections, prefabricated wall systems, and modular construction systems for North American and International mass timber projects from schematic design through to completion.
- Responsibilities:Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to the team of Design Technicians (on-site and remotely) in their day-to-day responsibilities and professional development including coaching, mentoring, performance management and scheduling
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to ensure the team's ongoing growth and success.

- Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations; in collaboration with the Safety Department
- Work with Project Teams to develop strategies and processes to execute and deliver integrated mass timber solutions for an exciting range of mass timber and modular projects
- Lead and cooperatively develop project specific mass timber and modular building component solutions based on Company offerings and project requirements
- Identify what projects to manage in-house and what projects to outsource with external partners. Manage outsourced work including quality and maintaining timelines. Tender modeling/drafting services.
- Cooperatively develop designs and detailed documentation of connections, shop drawings, and fabrication details alongside the project team
- Provide alternate design, specification and construction solutions when problems are encountered, resolve issues and provide solutions that best serve the needs of the project
- Develop and refine internal best practices and processes for our growing digital fabrication and design department that will serve Kalesnikoff’s growing operations
- Maintain a modeling schedule to ensure deliverables are issued within quoted lead times.
- Coordinate model sharing and compatibility with other trades
- Keeping up to date with changing legislation and building codes
- Occasional site visits.
- Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as requested or required
- Requirements:Post-secondary degree or diploma in Building Sciences, Engineering, or Architecture, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory/management role.
- Excellent knowledge of mass timber construction practices and design
- Construction experience with wall systems and modulars is preferred
- Ability to efficiently produce and manage production of 3D fabrication models for mass timber structures and the detailed shop drawings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer focus
- Experience leading diverse teams
- Strong proficiency in applicable software (i.e. CADWorks, AutoCAD, Dietrichs, Cambium, etc)
- Strong organizational & planning skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Working Conditions:Travel may be required
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Overtime as required.
- Occasional climbing and carrying
- Compensation Package:Wage: Starting at $110,000.00 annually
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
