Director, Automation Engineering
Summary of the role
Reporting directly to the General Manager – Automation Group, the purpose of this position is to provide leadership and guidance to the Engineering teams responsible for protection and controls, electrical and instrumentation, mechanical, generator excitation and speed governor systems.
The following responsibilities form the core of this role:
Direct reports to the position
• Direct reports include engineering managers as well as team leads. The Engineering group itself is comprised of Engineers, Technicians and Drafts people.
What will you do?
• As a member of the Chambly management team, provide leadership to and promote the development of personnel within the Engineering departments. You would:
• Secure the right talent, capacity and competence levels;
• Manage Engineering KPIs;
• Establish investment plans and requests;
• Manage and ensure adherence to the engineering processes;
• Standardize work practices;
• Plan and schedule resources according to workload and evolving priorities;
• Support external as well as internal customers (PM, Manufacturing, Quality, H&S, SCM, Sales, Admin)
• Contribute to the development of the engineering teams while striving for continuous improvement;
• Strive to ensure that engineering deliverables are of quality, are on time and on budget;
• Develop and foster a culture of accountability and collaboration;
• Implement new processes and ways of working for the Engineering department;
• Understand the customer needs while working in close collaboration with the Sales team;
• Provide various forms of technical assistance during Manufacturing, testing and commissioning;
• Ensure compliance with Environmental Policy, Workplace Health &Safety requirements, and take steps and precautions to protect and minimize harm to the workplace, its employees, and the environment;
• Contribute to the development of global strategies & support the installation or commissioning teams as required;
• Perform other duties as required;

• Bachelor or Master in Engineering with at least 10 years of experience in Automation, or equivalency from a combination of university training and work experience;
• Certified member of the O.I.Q.;
• Solid experience and track record in leading Engineering teams;
• Ability to assess competencies, develop employees with a coaching approach;
• Business skills (Administration, Finance, understanding of strategic processes);
• Strong project management skills;
• Strong leadership skills;
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate appropriately with all internal and external parties as required;
• An understanding of environmental systems, and Workplace Health and Safety legislation;
• Growth mindset combined with a good understanding of the existing and potential market for Hydro Automation solutions.
