Director, Human Resources

Remote Ottawa, ON

Giatec Scientific Inc. (Giatec) is looking for a Director, Human Resources to power-up our organization’s growth and lead our People function. If scaling a highly diverse organization in the cleantech space your thing, then this might be for you!

Our ideal candidate will be a well-rounded Human Resources (HR) leader with experience leading the HR function for a scaling technology company. Success in this role requires a strong collaborator who enjoys working closely with other team members – the role requires both strategic and hands on work. They will bring experience in developing HR strategies and seeing them through to execution. This role reports to the Vice President (VP), Finance & Operations and is hybrid with a strong on-site presence at our head-office in Ottawa.


  • Lead and scale the People team through thought leadership, effective coaching, and personal development
  • Lead the development and delivery of a People plan, in collaboration with the Leadership team, primarily the VP Finance & Operations
  • Build Talent Acquisition operations and strategy, including establishing the corresponding compensation strategy & practices, onboarding best practices, and end-to-end hiring operational best practices in a high growth environment
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Leadership team to nurture and promote the employer brand
  • Lay the HR foundations of performance management and implement continuous improvement and coaching programs (focus on accountability / feedback culture)
  • Create and implement new company policies and programs for employees, with a focus on timely, accurate, and seamless execution
  • Strategize how we continue to maintain and strengthen our culture as we grow


  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant field
  • CHRP required, CHRL preferred – or equivalent education
  • Experience working with a senior leadership team in a fast-growing tech company
  • 10+ years of experience in HR/People Operations, including at least 3 years leading the HR function of a scaling technology company
  • Depth of knowledge in a wide variety of HR areas, including: HR Strategy | Internal communications & employer branding | Change Management | Talent Acquisition / Onboarding | Building high performing teams | Learning & Development | Compensation & Benefits | HR Systems & Reporting | HR Compliance
  • Mission-driven with strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Task oriented with a strong track record of execution and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving and reliable decision making
