Position Summary

The Director of Development, Finance is responsible for the financial management of the Taggart Group’s commercial and residential development portfolio. This includes ultimate accountability for these projects’ financial reporting activities and key support to the Group’s treasury and risk management functions. This is a hands-on role requiring the provision of direct support to a wide-range of team members while also utilizing strong project management skills to oversee collaborative projects with numerous contributors.


Major Responsibilities

  • Overall accountability for the development finance team’s financial reporting activities including daily transactions, monthly internal reporting, and completion of the annual year-end files and financial statements
  • Support the Group’s treasury and risk management function through maintenance of development budgets, financing draws, forecasting of cash requirements, and contributing to the arrangement of new financing facilities as required
  • Collaborate with the development management teams to ensure budgets have adequate oversight and are maintained with a high degree of accuracy
  • Consult the legal and development management teams on financial considerations during the preparation of proposed cost-sharing, front-ending and other development agreements 
  • Ensure all operating agreements such as lot purchase agreements, management agreements, etc. are appropriately completed and complied
  • Develop and implement accounting policy and structure for all new acquisitions and projects
  • Manage and mentor a team of direct reports through continuous support, feedback, and annual goal setting


Other Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the preparation of periodic reporting to internal and external stakeholders including management, investors, lenders, regulatory authorities and others as required
  • Support the Director of Financial Systems and CFO in identifying and implementing areas for process improvement in pursuit of both increased quality and efficiency in all relevant respects
  • Assist the Director of Tax to satisfy all required compliance obligations by providing relevant information as required
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on delivery of enterprise-wide initiatives such as process improvement, financial systems implementation, leadership development, and people management


Education and Experience Requirements

  • University degree and CPA designation are required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience in leading teams and developing individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Previous experience in real estate, construction, or a related field is desirable


Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment

  • Ability to work in an office in a fast-paced environment.
  • Providing service to several people, companies, or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
  • Working for long periods of time at a sit/stand workstation in an office environment.
  • Overtime as required to complete and submit project requirements on schedule.
  • Manual dexterity required to perform all work using digital programs.
  • Flexibility for any required remote work.
