Director of Field Operations

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to fill the role of Director of Field Operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position entails overseeing all aspects of field operations in new construction sites, with a primary focus on ensuring personnel health and safety. The successful candidate must exhibit strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the standards of the VPAC Way.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, direct, and mentor Superintendents/Field Staff in line with the VPAC Way.
  • Serve as a liaison between Management and Superintendents/Field Staff.
  • Orient, train, and manage the development of all new Superintendents/Field Staff, including setting annual performance goals and conducting performance appraisals.\
  • Foster the development of Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents through mentorship and guidance.


New Construction Site Oversight:

  • Oversee all aspects of new construction site operations, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to address construction challenges and ensure project success.


Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to regulations and standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify and mitigate safety hazards.


Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with construction activities, providing technical assistance and implementing risk mitigation plans as necessary.
  • Respond promptly to safety incidents or emergencies on construction sites.


Communication and Reporting:

  • Maintain regular communication with COO and senior management, providing updates on field operations activities.
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to support decision-making and strategic planning efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Proven success in overseeing field operations for new construction projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in the construction industry.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certification in construction safety (e.g., OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification) preferred.


Reporting Structure:

The Director of Field Operations will report directly to the COO and will oversee a team of Superintendents, Field Staff, Construction Safety Officers (CSOs), and laborers. Collaboration with external stakeholders, including WorkSafe BC representatives, is critical to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
