General Superintendent (High-Rise)

Delta, BC

Penmat Contracting & Project Management Ltd., part of The BM Group, is a full-service project management, construction and land development company dealing with all sectors of the real estate and construction industries with a diverse portfolio of projects across Canada.


We are looking to fill the position of High-Rise General Superintendent. Reporting to the CEO/Chairman & Vice President of BMG, as the General Superintendent your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of the construction of Walker House, a 264 unit, 29 story concrete high-rise development in North Delta, BC. You will be responsible for successful project delivery, including planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all aspects of construction execution and corresponding project controls.


What You’ll Do:

• Have a full responsibility, and leadership of the construction of Walker House high-rise development

• Create comprehensive construction schedules, keep track of them regularly, and deliver monthly reports

• Be able to pivot and adjust construction plan, resources, or scope to alleviate schedule concerns

• Review the project’s scope of work, work with the project team to mitigate risks and enhance opportunities

• Participate in the tendering processes as needed, attend bid review meetings

• Verify that the field operations have the facilities, materials, tools, and resources to operate efficiently

• Deliver scope while surpassing design and expectations for quality, fit, and finish

• Proactively communicate with all parties for any troubleshooting and issue resolution

• Take charge of making independent decisions that would benefit the project

• Ensure scope execution is in full compliance with Penmat’s Health and Safety, and all legislative requirements

• Identify, hire and manage specialty Superintendents required to complete the project

• Work with Specialty Superintendents in regard to subcontractor and employee management

• Manage all self-perform work, ensure operations are on task and achieving project requirements

• Coach, motivate, and assist supervisors and subcontractors/suppliers on the project team to meet the project's budget, scope, and schedule objectives

• Claims and change management, as required

• Monthly progress billing and quantity claims, as required


What You Have:

• 10+ years of extensive local experience managing concrete high-rise developments

• Ability to identify, hire and manage a team of Specialty Superintendents needed for project

• Ability to utilize strong trades and industry connections

• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, practices, procedures and building code

• Understand construction terms, scheduling, planning concepts, construction contracts, and development processes.

• Proven ability to budget, build relationships, and prioritize the high-rise development

• Great interpersonal and collaborative skills, including verbal and written communication

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with an ability to solve problem

• Ability to inspire and lead site teams (field and office) to achieve project objectives

• Excel under pressure and possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make key decisions with confidence

• Honest and straightforward in dealing with others and always acts with the utmost professional integrity and in the best interest of the company

• Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills

• University degree or college diploma in a related field could be an asset

• Extensive knowledge and experience with cost control, schedule execution, and contract/change management

• Self-starting, team player willing to work collaboratively towards achieving the strategic goals of the company


Proposed Compensation Package

• $160,000 - $200,000 per annum
