The Opportunity


McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Intermediate/Senior Civil Project Manager to grow our Civil Engineering presence in Victoria, BC. In this role, you will serve as a visionary and strategic leader. With dynamic people and leadership skills, and a passion for developing business opportunities. This managerial role, with shareholding opportunities, is ideal for a self-starter that can excel in a mature, privately held organization with an established engineering, surveying, and support services firm.

Our Victoria branch offers a wide array of McElhanney services including civil and structural engineering, land surveying and environmental consulting, working on projects both locally and in the greater Vancouver Island region.


What You’ll Be Doing


  • Lead detailed designs and production of engineering drawings and specifications, meeting all client and approval agency requirements, including new municipal utilities and road works, as well as local government utility rehabilitation and renewal projects.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, calculations, prepare development and construction cost estimates, tender documents and contracts.
  • Chair regular project meetings with clients and internal staff
  • Develop new business and establish strategic relationships with key clients, agencies and partners
  • Coordinate with other team members and monitor project progress to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
  • Provide leadership in safety and quality management practices
  • Create and review of technical reports; Prepare and submit superior proposals
  • Generate invoices for clients and track against agreed client budgets
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams, providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.


What You’ll Bring


  • A degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university with strong technical skills and 5 – 15 years of related technical experience
  • Registration in good standing as a P.Eng in BC or ability to obtain registration through existing inter-jurisdictional agreements
  • Construction Administration is an asset
  • Proven ability to attract and retain clients, win projects and consistently provide high quality deliverables on time and on budget
  • Demonstrated business development skills
  • An aptitude for leadership, continuous learning, knowledge sharing and relationship building
  • Bonus points if you have experience with all government levels, construction contractors and developers would be an asset
