If you have a mechanical background and are eager to contribute to a growing company, we want you to join our client's team as a Junior Mechanical Estimator. This junior-level position offers the opportunity for growth and development with a dynamic company.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage estimates and budgets for hard bid, design/build, and maintenance proposals, including material prices, labor costs, and equipment costs based on project drawings and specifications.
- Oversee pre-construction development, including project scope definition and critical path scheduling, and identify associated risks and issues.
- Request, evaluate, and recommend sub-trade quotations as needed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project plans and specifications.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with Owners and Engineers to build relationships and secure repeat business.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to plan construction projects and prepare construction schedules in coordination with the Project Superintendent.
- Manage incoming and outgoing bid requests and work with senior management to make bid/no-bid decisions.
- Serve as a resource for Project Managers throughout the construction or service project.
- Perform additional duties as required and requested.
- Assist in establishing overall project benchmarks and target costs; responsible for forecasting and analysis.
- Contribute to the development of project execution, procurement strategies, and individual contract strategies.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with estimation requirements, facilitate smooth reporting from subcontractors to management systems, and conduct quantity surveying and verification of subcontractor qualifications.
- Review all tender documentation and drawings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of submissions.
- Coordinate and/or attend pre-bid meetings to confirm scope of work and proposal requirements.
- Review and approve all bid packages before submission.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years of directly relevant experience.
- Experience in the Construction or Service industry is required.
- Experience in project management is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Experience in conceptual estimating.
- Strong understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, including architectural and mechanical plans.
