Position Overview

Reporting to the Estimating Director, this is an opportunity to be on an industry leading team, working on exciting major project pursuits in Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for managing, closing and submitting bids (e.g., design, construction, commercial terms, execution strategy, schedule, etc.)
- Assign resources (e.g., schedulers, commercial, procurement, estimators and support personnel) to produce the required bid deliverables in an orderly manner
- Provide recommendations to management on how best to proceed with bid requests
- In conjunction with management, develop strategic and competitive approaches
- Engage the legal team to confirm that the contract accurately reflects the Aecon bid. Identify risks and ensure necessary precautions are implemented to manage exposure
- Lead all bid meetings and technical working group meetings as necessary
- Provide monthly updates to Aecon and joint venture partner Senior Executives
- Engage any third parties necessary to support Aecon’s bid
- Manage and coordinate input from partners
- Work on multiple proposals simultaneously
- Oversee document management throughout the bid process
- Author technical content for proposals, RFPs and RFQs
- Develop content through own understanding, as well as in coordination with subject matter experts (active/creative writing)
- Facilitate the completion, review and edit of documentation. Ensure the quality of all documents and materials prior to submission and carry out necessary due diligence of proposal production and submission of fully compliant bids
- Provide input on constructability and value engineering
- Design Management
- Collect and assemble technical, commercial and required marketing documents
- Coordinate with Aecon departments to develop critical proposal material (where applicable)
- Summarize and present, as necessary, the proposal to senior management to obtain required approvals (e.g., CRC, PRC, Board of Directors, etc.)
- Develop formal presentations of proposals, upon being shortlisted and called in to present directly to the client
- Participate in industry forums, conferences and functions where appropriate
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, partners and subcontractors
- Travel as required to work to develop and close bid submissions
- Present all relevant documentation required for project handover and participate in handover process
- Communicate imminent award to other Aecon divisions that assisted with the proposal or were carried in the estimate
- Serve as main point of contact between joint venture partners, designers and subcontractors
- Participate in and prepare documentation for client meetings during bid phase, including commercially confidential meetings, workshops and presentations
Required Knowledge And Experience
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in the construction industry
- Experience in heavy civil, infrastructure projects
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- P. Eng designation considered an asset
- Thorough understanding of construction methodologies and practices
- Experience leading large major projects, joint venture relationships and multi-disciplinary teams
- Technical and/or creative writing skills
- Exceptional organizational and leadership skills
- Strong computer skills – MS Excel / Word / Project, P6 and estimating software
