Partner, Mine Closure Planning & Remediation (Partner Level)

The ideal candidate brings significant consulting experience and client relationships, in order to provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and project leadership. As a senior leader, you will be fully accountable for successfully selling and consulting on mine closure planning and cost estimation for projects across the mining life cycle, to continue to grow the business locally, while networking with ERM's global Mining team to share best practices across the industry. About The Service Area


Environmental liabilities, which are a part of almost every company’s asset portfolio and balance sheet, present our clients with regulatory, technical and social complexities that heighten risk and potentially reduce asset value. Throughout a company’s asset life cycle, ERM helps our clients manage these risks through strategic approaches, digital applications and best-fit technical methods that identify, assess and manage environmental liabilities. Through cross-functional strategic engagement, we work to transform environmental liabilities and legacy assets into a risk-adjusted portfolio, which supports favorable outcomes, alignment to sustainability goals, and social acceptance.


We do this by actively engaging with client teams to understand and respond to their specific and evolving needs and obligations through an end-to-end integration of site investigation, remediation, and asset decommissioning and retirement processes.


We help our clients with:


  • Options analysis, including land transition
  • Digital data collection, analysis, and portfolio dashboarding
  • Liability assessments
  • Asset recycling
  • Regulatory adaptation strategies
  • Integrating EGS goals with remediation and closure action plans
  • Portfolio risk management for emerging risks such as new contaminants, regulatory changes, and stakeholder concern


ROLE PROFILE:


  • Primary focus on client account development, sales, and delivery of the full spectrum of ERM’s consulting services to deliver strategic value to our clients across multiple sectors. In particular, play a key role in leading and growing ERM’s existing mine closure business.
  • Provide technical expertise for closure and reclamation planning at all stages of the mine life
  • Ensure that all work is compliant with relevant regulatory requirements and other guidance, including provincial and federal permits and regulations, international standards, industry guidance and others.
  • Be accountable for the quality of deliverables and management of schedule and budgets.
  • Provide oversight and quality control for data collection, management, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of ERM national and global practitioners to execute projects and to deepen relationships with ERM key clients to expand ERM’s profile and market share in the global Mining market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development support).
  • Contribute to business development of ERM’s global Mining service area. Support development of new opportunities, including preparation of technical proposals and cost estimates.
  • Mentor junior-level and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills.
  • Contribute to proposal development, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates in accordance with ERM’s policies and processes.
  • Grow and maintain client relationships to support new and repeat business.
  • When required, direct and monitor project management activities related to projects, including task delegation and direction, subcontractor management, health & safety protocol management, monitoring of commercial performance, quality review of deliverables, and interaction with clients.
  • Work with other global ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients to expand ERM’s profile and market share in the global Mining market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development support).
  • Develop a working understanding of ERM’s other consulting service areas and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelors in engineering, geology, science, or related discipline; professional registration (e.g., P.Eng, P.Geo, or P.Ag.) would be an asset.
  • 15+ years progressive site investigation and remediation experience in a consulting environment, working substantially with industrial clients; preferable with mining sector.
  • Expertise in mine closure planning, in particular the development of strategic closure goals, closure objectives and associated criteria.
  • Strong knowledge of project management and experience working as part of an integrated team of consultants and engineering companies to develop pre-feasibility and feasibility level studies.
  • Experience conducting third-party reviews against industry best practices, regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental management programs (e.g., for tailings, waste rock, water quality, air quality and/or hazardous waste management), for projects in various stages of mine life (e.g. construction, operations, and/or closure)
  • Demonstrable track record providing high-value service and technical solutions to mining clients.
  • Business acumen to understand business risk and challenges and recognize corporate opportunities.
  • Demonstrable track record in delivering multimillion dollar sales results annually, including successfully winning large and strategic projects.
  • Recognized technical expertise and an established reputation in the local marketplace.
