Principal Project Control Specialist

Job Description


Your role will be to execute project controls tasks with a level of competency that supports autonomy, requiring guidance when required, to deliver projects and prepare bids. In this role you will develop your leadership skills where the opportunity exists to manage junior project controllers.


Key Duties Will Include


  • Schedule creation, update, and analysis; cost baseline creation, update, and analysis; resource demand and supply analysis.
  • Demonstrate an ability to operate across a range of project types, employing standards and practices as set by the National Project Controls Lead and Regional Project Controls Leads.
  • Executing the delivery of project controls services to support the project team achieve the timely and cost-effective delivery of our project deliverables.
  • Interfacing with project managers, design managers, commercial managers, and the procurement of sub-contractors – to achieve project controls integration with the wider project team.
  • Adhering to and executing the project controls services in-line with the Mott MacDonald and project specific Project Controls Management Plans.
  • Providing input and feedback on the development and ongoing maintenance of project controls systems, including: the schedule, cost management and cost forecasting, risk register, change control register, and resource planning.
  • Being responsible for accurate and insightful reporting of the project controls functional disciplines to both support the project teams to manage the timely and cost-effective completion of deliverables and provide the client meaningful progress reports.
  • Adding value by analysing project controls data and metrics to identify risks and opportunities to both the project team and client.
  • Identifying risks before they become issues and contribute to a risk mitigation strategy and action plan to minimize or remove risks before they materialize into issues.


Candidate Specification


We Are Looking For


  • Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience as a Project Controller within the design and construction industry, sectors of focus include rail, roads, and built environment.
  • Professional Project Management (PMP) would be an advantage
  • P6 Scheduling experience
  • PRISM, or similar cost management platform experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a project environment, providing quality technical knowledge with limited guidance within Project Controls.
  • Motivating people to be curious; leading through uncertainty and doubt; creating new value propositions; and casting a compelling vision of the future which motivates and retains great people.
  • Demonstrating a passion for continual learning. Using, and promoting the use of, global network systems.
