Project Controls Manager

Remote Toronto, ON

DRA covers all major mining centers with offices across Africa and the Middle East, North and South America, and the Asia-Pacific. We are seeking a Project Controls Manager for our Toronto office.


The Project Controls Manager is client interfacing and is responsible to provide the management, guidance and reporting support and maintain the set up and running of all required project controls systems, tools and interfaces to allow successful cost and schedule management throughout the assigned project.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing cost and schedule for the scope managed on the Client’s behalf across multiple contracts with the Client.
  • Act as primary Client’s liaison with the EPCM project controls team and manage controls activities per requirements in the prime EPCM Agreement.
  • Assure all cost and planning project control procedures are in place and are in compliance with corporate policy and standards.
  • Participate in forecast meetings, prepare consolidated capital cost forecast estimates for the scope under management and coordinate the EPCM forecast across multiple contracts.
  • Implement trending process for the scope relating to cost and schedule. Maintain the trend and change register as per project procedures.
  • Establish and maintain schedule of the Client’s scope across the projects integrated with EPCM scope of work.
  • Focus and identify key risks and opportunities in the interest of the project
  • Maintain accurate records of committed, expended and forecast costs associated with the project against the approved budget.
  • Interface Cost control, Scheduling and Procurement activities.
  • Analyze variances in costs and timelines against the plan and communicate reasons for variances and proposed mitigation plans to project management.
  • Monitor the project’s costs and resource levels to maintain an accurate forecast cost at completion.
  • Review scope changes, trends and change notices initiated from the project management systems and review their time and cost implications.
  • Provide input to the Project Managers’ reports to the client in detail to ensure they are accurate, concise and informative on progress / costs to date and forecasts / changes through to completion.
  • Understand the principles of Earned Value management and performance metrics. Apply principles and provide support to EPCM team in application.
  • Ensure timely deliverables required for month end documentation, reporting appendixes, vendor invoice processing, EPCM invoices etc.
  • Provide recommendations on the draw-down of escalation and contingency throughout the project duration.
  • Prepare cost data cost reports, change alert and variation registers, variance reports etc. ensure cost change variations are recorded and processed for work not covered under the EPCM scope.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts of forthcoming financial commitments and prepare commitment curves for the project. Ensure it is current and according to the progress for status date.
  • Provide inputs to Project Management team in identification of critical and near critical path/look ahead of schedule.
  • Key interface with Client team members as required.
  • Prepare monthly status, schedule and cost reports including evaluations and presentation of current projected budgets; assess actual commitments and expenditures through a specified reporting period. Compares forecasts to the approval budget and provide explanations for any variances.
  • Collect, analyze, and reduce capital and operating cost data to statistics and metrics for scoping, execution planning, and estimating costs for reporting.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering desirable.
  • Have a minimum of 15-20 years of total experience.
  • Affiliation to AACE and PMI, certification is a plus.
  • Must have been exposed to large-scale projects and large project teams.
  • Ability to travel both in Canada and abroad for short-term assignments.
  • Experience with project control (cost, planning and estimation).
  • Experience in all phases of engineering, procurement and construction and construction management.
  • Knowledge of contracts and contract administration.
  • Experience managing teams and managing conflicts.
  • Proven ability to work with project teams to influence and achieve desired results.
  • Proficient in MS Office (spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, graphics) and the project.
