The Parks Infrastructure Planning and Development department is currently seeking two full time Project Managers on 4-year contract to lead exciting parks, trails and open space projects. Our diverse portfolio is focused on delivering a variety of community engagement, design and construction projects that include developing new urban parks within the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and intensification areas, exciting greenfield parks and trails, and redeveloping legacy district parks and facilities within existing communities.


The Project Managers are senior positions within the Department that play an important leadership role in the advancement of key projects for Vaughan residents and visitors. The Project Managers will be responsible for the planning, design, and contract administration of major parks and open space projects, master plans, and other special initiatives. They will supervise, review and direct the work of multi-disciplinary consultants, engage external parties and administer associated contracts. The Project Managers collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, develop and execute community consultation processes, develop capital programs, and contribute towards designing public space.


Ideally, preferred candidates have experience in the design and delivery of parks and trail capital projects with a strong background in design, stakeholder relationships, and capital delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

• University Degree in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Planning or suitable equivalent.


• Professional designation (OALA, OAA, RPP or P.Eng) in good standing with relevant professional association (PEO, OALA, OAA, OPPI).


• Certification as a Project Manager Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute or willingness to obtain certification within one (1) year of start date.


• Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience. Work experience must include extensive project management and contract administration experience in planning, coordinating, designing and constructing, complex, multidisciplinary projects in a municipal environment.


• Skilled in leading effective project teams and developing collaborative internal and external business relationships.


• Vast knowledge of construction methods, equipment and technologies related to design and construction, including reading and interpreting site plans, landscape/architectural/engineering drawings and specifications.


• Ability to deal effectively at all levels of the organization and with political representatives, consultants, contractors and the public exercising excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.


• Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.


• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills; coupled with the ability to prioritize activities to successfully meet deadlines.


• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core competencies.


• Proficiency in the use of general computer software, i.e. Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, including applicable project management, design, drafting, and related software/technology.


• Must possess a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle for business purposes.


• Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
