We are seeking a passionate and experienced communications professional to drive strategic communications. and bring planful, creative, effective communications and engagement strategies and tactics to life.


As a subject matter specialist on a strategic marketing and communications team that engages, informs and inspires audiences, you’ll develop and implement comprehensive communications programs and plans to support customer, community, stakeholder, project and employee communications for our ATCO Electric and Gas business units. Working closely with teams from across ATCO Electric and ATCO Gas & Pipelines, you’ll translate our business strategies into innovative and effective marketing and communications that help us achieve our business objectives.

You have a client-focused mindset, a proven mastery of communications as well as strong consulting and integration skills.

You are passionate about writing and storytelling, and you enjoy research, following trends and issues that have an impact on ATCO’s business. You’ll work with our business partners to build strong relationships within the business units and across ATCO’s corporate marketing and communications team. You’ll be part of the Energy Systems Business Communications team, reporting to the Manager, Business Communications.

You bring a big picture view to your advice, plans and writing, ensuring ATCO’s brand, including both our voice and visual identity, is consistently implemented throughout all communications materials and channels. You reflect ATCO’s values and commitment to excellence and safety in all that you do.


  • Lead the development of communications strategies and related projects and plans to support our business plan priorities
  • Provide communications counsel to internal clients and develop and implement compelling, engaging, audience-centric communications plans and programs, and measure performance
  • Be a brand champion and ensure both our voice and visual identity consistently shine through all communications, including web, social, email, video, print, presentation, reports and speaking notes
  • Leverage research or other analytics and feedback to gauge effectiveness and apply to communication program design
  • Assist in managing reputational risk during major incidents or crises by participating in planning and execution of crisis communications
  • Manage confidential and sensitive information in accordance with ATCO’s Code of Ethics and Disclosure policies
  • Enhance and champion the use of communication channels that are engaging and informative
  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications colleagues from across ATCO in building skills and developing creative solutions that elevate our work


  • A post-secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field (experience and equivalencies may be considered)
  • 7-10 years of proven and progressive experience in communications, applying internal and external communication principles and strategies in a corporate or public sector setting
  • Experience developing comprehensive communications plans and programs
  • Strong leadership and client management skills
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills (written and verbal) as well as experience in developing video, photography and creative content
  • Ability to develop KPIs, goals and benchmarks and drive the performance of campaigns and initiatives
  • A proven creative and strategic thinker
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently in a diverse business environment
  • Professional membership with CPRS / IABC or other related professional association would be an asset
  • Solid project management, planning and organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Sharepoint and Teams, information architecture, and web usability is highly desirable
