What you’ll do

BC Hydro is looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to work on the planning, delivery and execution of the 500kV Transmission Lines from Prince George to Terrace. This is an exciting opportunity to work on unique and challenging project. The Senior Engineer will oversee all planning aspects and field execution of construction contracts through the project life-cycle which will require technical understanding of construction sequences, methodologies, and systems. The Senior Engineer will oversee the implementation of construction projects to assure contract compliance by contractors in all aspects the contract including safety, quality, schedule, environment, scope, and cost.


* Support and work with a multidisciplined group of BC Hydro Construction officers, support staff and/or external consultants in the fields of construction management, contract management and commissioning at a project level


* Plans and manages construction and equipment installation contracts, ensures the successful completion of the contract work in compliance with the contract milestones and responsible to verify and prepare documentation for payment.


* Ensures that all aspects of construction work and associated activities related to assigned projects is planned in accordance with BC Hydro's PPM Practices and is carried out effectively in terms of safety, quality, schedule, cost and scope.


* Provides technical guidance and facilitates appropriate technical/constructability reviews and oversight for projects as required.


* Assist and facilitate the resolution of technical issues


* Conducts Constructability Reviews for projects throughout various stages in the project life-cycle.


* Works and communicates with various key stakeholders to understand impacts to construction at various stages in the project life-cycle


* Establish and maintain liaison with engineers, project engineers, project managers, contract managers, procurement officers, and operations.


* Provides input to and reviews to contract tender documents with respect to scope, schedule, safety and risk.


* Develops multi-disciplined owner construction schedules for projects as required.


* Provides input to the public consultation process as it pertains to construction site activities and issues.


* Works with the Construction Manager 1 and Construction Manager 2 to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet short-term projects, multi-year projects and program plans.


What you bring

* Engineering Degree, preferably in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Integrated Engineering


* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of British Columbia.


* A minimum of 7 years of experience in civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical work in an electrical utility environment. Knowledge in all aspects of electric utility disciplines. Demonstrated knowledge in construction methods and procedures in the electrical utility environment specially the coordination and sequencing for High voltage equipment repairs or replacements. Preference will be given to candidates with construction knowledge of High Voltage, substations, transmission and distribution voltage lines, telecommunications and protection and controls.


* Knowledge of Contracting principles, health & safety and environmental regulations relevant to utility construction.


* Knowledge of project management, including cost control, project administration and contracts management.


* Knowledge of scheduling principles.


* Knowledge of construction processes and with respect to field

execution and quality management practices.


* Demonstrated organization, project planning and people management skills.


* Ability to manage a project or series of projects of considerable scope and complexity on time and within budget.


* Ability to relate and discuss issues with a range of professionals, including trades people and senior management.


* Ability to be practical, logical, curious, and have a planning mindset.


* Strong interpersonal skills.


* Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, excellent communication, and organizational skills.


* Ability and passion to provide strong work leadership and technical direction to engineers or other technical support staff.


* Extensive experience managing contracts, negotiating work changes, claims and managing contract disputes, will be considered an asset for this position.


* Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
