Position Overview:


We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Senior Construction Manager to be part of building a new recycling cleantech future. This position will lead the site development, construction, and commissioning of our first full-sized commercial physical recycling plant (Spoke 1) located in Kingston Ontario. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the management, monitoring, and smooth running of the project, from permitting and plan development to completion. Experience delivering capital projects is a must, including full site and plant development. This role will be responsible for overall project success including management of all sub-contractors, communication with equipment vendors and internal resource coordination to ensure on time delivery and installation of the processing equipment and delivery of the project to our Plant Operations Manager and their team. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to take responsibility for managing the construction of future plants across North America following the completion of the Kingston project.


What You Will Be Doing:


  • Help with preparation of building and other permit applications with the local municipality. Management & oversight of field work in support of engineering design.
  • Oversee total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule.
  • Provide direction to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions as required.
  • Review project construction material laydown requirements and delivery procedures
  • Coordinate with business development, asset management, and engineering teams to develop and execute project scope, budget, execution plan, schedule, resource requirements, permit applications, commissioning plan, pre-start safety review, and documentation.
  • Cost/Financial Management: Responsible for planning and managing capital and expense dollars for the plant construction and commissioning cycle. This responsibility will require close coordination with the CFO and finance department. Create project execution plans that include schedules, budgets, resource requirements, permits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality: Responsible for ensuring quality manufacturing/construction that meets the design specifications
  • Coordinate and direct the work of external consultants.
  • Safety: Provide on-site quality control and technical oversight during construction and commissioning, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and contractors and compliance with all required regulations.
  • Training and handover: Responsible for the overall transition program, including establishing a schedule and method of accountability for ensuring employee training and development, administration of policies and procedures, and compliance with provincial and federal legislation, where appropriate.
  • Provide leadership and influence in the development of the project.
  • Make independent decisions and communicate recommendations to management and other affected parties in a way that fosters consensus and facilitates efficient.
  • Performs additional responsibilities and project assignments as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Apply learning from leading the permitting and construction of the Spoke 1 plant to future sites located across North America.
  • The position requires strong technical, project management, organizational, and communication skills and will develop the knowledge of the systems, processes and tools required to plan and build new facilities.


What You Will Bring


  • 10-15 years’ related experience in capital and construction project management; PMP an asset.
  • Post-Secondary degree in technical area of study (e.g., engineering, architectural science, construction management) considered an asset in lieu of extensive experience.
  • You MUST have experience in the recycling, mining and metals, and chemical industry sector.
  • A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques is a requirement.
  • Excellent proactivity, organization and time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of OH&S regulations and related building codes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment as well as working independently to ensure processing and completion of relevant tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
