Are you an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator with a strong background in the construction or service industry? On behalf of our client we are seeking a talented individual to join our team and play a key role in estimating and budgeting for large-scale projects with precision and expertise. This role combines the dynamic environment of a start-up with the stability of a long-established company.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Estimate and Budget Development: Develop estimates and budgets for hard bid, design/build, and maintenance proposals, including material prices, labor costs, and equipment costs based on drawings and specifications. Submit comprehensive proposals.
- Pre-Construction Development: Undertake pre-construction planning, including defining project scope, scheduling critical paths, and identifying associated risks and issues.
- Sub-Trade Coordination: Request, evaluate, and recommend sub-trade quotations, ensuring accuracy and conformance to project plans and specifications.
- Client Communication: Communicate effectively and professionally with owners and engineers to build relationships and ensure repeat business.
- Project Planning: Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to plan construction projects and prepare construction schedules.
- Bid Management: Manage incoming and outgoing bid requests, and work with senior management to make bid/no-bid decisions.
- Project Support: Serve as a resource for Project Managers throughout the construction or service project, providing additional support as needed.
- Benchmark and Cost Analysis: Assist in establishing overall project benchmarks and target costs; responsible for forecasting and analysis.
- Procurement Strategy: Provide input into the project execution and procurement strategy, including individual contract strategies.
- Subcontractor Compliance: Ensure subcontractors comply with company estimation requirements, conduct quantity surveying, and verify qualifications.
- Tender Documentation: Review all tender documentation and drawings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of submissions.
- Pre-Bid Meetings: Coordinate and/or attend pre-bid meetings to confirm scope of work and proposal requirements.
- Bid Package Review: Review and approve all bid packages before submission.
Requirements:
- Experience: 4-7 years of experience in a similar role; experience in the construction or service industry is required.
- Project Management: Experience in project management is considered an asset.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office products; experience in undertaking conceptual estimates.
- Industry Knowledge: Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, and their impact on project activities.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, including architectural and mechanical plans.
