Senior Planning Engineer

Reporting to the Leader of Utilities Infrastructure Planning (UIP), you will support strategic planning and complex analysis for Water, Wastewater and Stormwater infrastructure planning related to City and regional growth. This role is expected to lead/manage major, complex projects, and review, coordinate and consolidate technical input from utility groups across departments to key initiatives. Primary duties include:
- Initialize, lead, and manage complex projects and initiatives, including preparation of business cases, stage gating, construction agreements, and technical handover to Utilities Delivery group.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal and external key interested parties to provide technical input into key initiatives, which include Area Structure Plans (ASPs), Growth Applications (GAs), Local Area Plans (LAPs), etc.
- Contribute to committee or council reports on items pertaining to utilities infrastructure planning.
- Work closely with other senior planning engineers and the Leader of UIP in creating the strategic vision for capital investment, establishing prioritization and decision-making processes.
- Enhance practices, standards and procedures for the work undertaken by the UIP team.
- Support communication with BILD, regulators and other customers about the changes to the review/approval processes and design criteria related to land development.
- Provide oversight, coaching, mentoring and direction to junior staff in their interaction with interested parties including the public, customers, and other City departments and create a line of sight that links team results with broader city building outcomes.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering.
- You must have at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering obtained after receiving your Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
- Strong technical knowledge of water, sanitary and/or stormwater systems is required.
- Effective project management skill will be considered an asset.
