Job Description


This Vice President Business Development is a key leadership role in Mott MacDonald. In this role you will be responsible for developing and maintaining client and stakeholder relationships, together with identifying, and building a pipeline of opportunities and winning work within the Vancouver and surrounding market, particularly as it relates to the transit, urban mobility, energy, tunnels, and overall transportation sectors.


Working under the direct supervision of our Canada Development Manager, this position ensures we engage the right clients in a meaningful way and are competitive in the marketplace. The VP is instrumental in supporting a team of seller/doer’s and Account Leaders to manage and build the right capability and focus on the business to convert prospects into revenue. A key aspect of this role is to closely coordinate with the Canada Development Manager in developing and implementing the Unit’s strategy and business planning as well as supporting and developing effective seller/doer and account leadership through coaching, directing and role modelling.



Key Responsibilities


  • Meeting sales goals and other KPIs identified for the role.
  • Define and prioritize clients, identify and engage emerging clients, lead strategic decisions on which clients to pursue/not to pursue and ensure a healthy pipeline of revenue opportunities.
  • Actively participate in key customer interactions and engagement and hold assigned key client relationships at a senior level.
  • Support the Unit Development Manager to build an industry leading, client focused team of professionals.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of strategic client engagement and ambition plans.
  • Raise Mott MacDonald’s profile through enhanced industry and media presence.
  • Role model the use of our business management processes.
  • Be accountable for the use of our integrated Customer Relationship Management platform for account and opportunity tracking, pipeline health, resource planning, etc.
  • Support proposal and interview preparation efforts, particular as it relates to key pursuits, to ensure the development of strategic, customized proposal responses, including understanding of the scope, plan, approach, past performance, and personnel.
  • Champion the account leader model and take a leading role in motivating, directing, and developing our account leader community.
  • Serve as a Principal Account Leader or Account Leader as applicable for one or more key clients.
  • Build the right capabilities in the Unit to convert opportunities into revenue.
  • Provide support in preparing the annual business plan and strategies.
  • Closely collaborate with Unit leadership to maintain strong focus and ensure we deliver against business plans and strategies.
  • Detect key themes and trends in the marketplace, communicate them effectively across the business and drive appropriate action.
  • Be accountable for business development and proposal budgets.


Candidate Specification


We Invite Applications From Candidates With The Following Experience



  • 15+ years of experience successfully developing client relationships, account management, identifying pursuits, and winning projects in the A/E/C industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, science, business, or related field.
  • Demonstrated track record of winning infrastructure work with public sector agencies.
  • Strong relationships with key contacts with private organizations, provincial and municipal agencies and the ability to leverage those relationship into a robust sales pipeline.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Proven leader in strategic planning, strategic teaming, proposal strategy and negotiations.
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management tools.
  • Goal oriented with desire to successfully pursue and win work.
