Vice President, Finance

Burnaby, BC

THE ROLE

As Vice President, Finance, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a talented, driven finance team while shaping the future of our company. This role is all about driving growth and innovation—you’ll optimize financial processes, deliver strategic insights to our executive team, and work closely with key stakeholders to steer our financial success.

You’ll take charge of budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, while leading financial analysis and reporting that pushes the company forward. Plus, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping future investments, managing the company’s capital structure, and ensuring we stay ahead of compliance.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Here’s what you’ll get up to as the Vice President, Finance:

Budgeting / Forecasting

  • Oversee the budgeting process, including setting budgetary targets, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring alignment with strategic goals
  • Mid year and year end budget reviews (revenue, gross margin, overhead, EBITDA)
  • Prepare and maintain cash flow spreadsheet   
  • Manage and update Cash Deployment spreadsheet
  • Manage and update budgeting for all related companies including four properties and various investments

Financial Analysis

  • Support current and future investments for the ETRO Group of Companies
  • Manage the company's capital structure, including debt and equity financing. Evaluate financing options and negotiate terms with financial institutions

Financial Reporting

  • Review monthly and quarterly financial reports and ensure compliance with GAAP + ASPE
  • Compile and present Quarterly Shareholder reports / presentation to stakeholders
  • Review WIP on a monthly basis
  • Review weekly reporting on a weekly basis
  • Review and analyze Temp Labour Reports with Project Accountant and Superintendents
  • Analyze accrual rates and do adjustments as necessary
  • Maintain Standard Rate Spreadsheet
  • Close projects

Annual Audits

  • Prepare / Review year end documentation for all 12 companies

Cash Flow Management

  • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure sufficient funds/liquidity for operational needs and project financing

Team Leadership and Development

  • Meet with each team member once a week to review task list and upcoming tasks 
  • Oversee development of team (1-2-1's / Goal check-in's)
  • Implement/research financial processes and systems to improve efficiency

Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate financial performance and strategic recommendations to executives, board members, and other stakeholders
  • Manage relationships with all stakeholders (BMO, Wylie Crump, MNP)

Technology and Systems

  • Financial Systems: Manage and upgrade financial systems and software to ensure they meet the organization’s needs.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize financial data to drive decision-making and improve financial performance

Other/Miscellaneous

  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making by the CEO and other executives. Participate in high-level strategic planning and execution

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

On top of your passion to work in a growing business full of professionals in the trade, here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or finance
  • Master’s degree in business administration or finance is an asset
  • CPA + CA Designation 
  • 20 - 25 years of experience with a deep understanding of financial principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Relevant experience in the Construction industry 
  • Previous Public Practice experience is an asset 
  • Proven experience in managing finance teams and departments
  • Ability to align financial strategy with overall business goals and objectives
  • Strong verbal and written skills to convey financial information to stakeholders
  • Proficiency in data analysis and financial modeling
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance standards
  • Experience with financial software and systems, including ERPs; experience with CMiC is an asset
  • Ability to make sound financial decisions based on data and market trends

Salary range
