Job Description


OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified and highly motivated Vice President – Greenfields Exploration, to support the delivery of OceanaGold’s corporate exploration and geology strategy. The position based at our Vancouver Head Office and reporting to the Executive Vice President – Chief Exploration Officer, will be responsible for shaping the company’s Greenfields exploration direction and establishing and managing a portfolio of projects capable of hosting OceanaGold’s future discoveries. Working closely with the Exploration and Geology, Business Development, and Projects and Technical Studies teams, your drive and strong foundation in all aspects of gold/gold-copper exploration and discovery will ensure your success in this this challenging and highly rewarding strategic appointment.


Key tasks and responsibilities:


  • Shaping the Greenfields exploration direction, aligning with the OGC’s wider vision and strategy for Exploration across the Group.
  • Development of a sustainable Greenfields exploration portfolio by identifying, pursuing, and securing gold opportunities through 3rd party agreements aligned with OceanaGold’s growth strategy.
  • Conducting due diligence on projects of interest.
  • Maintain a strong sector network that facilitates the identification of gold/gold-copper opportunities.
  • Represent OGC’s interests in Joint Ventures as a key member of JV Technical Committees, ensuring the exploration team conducts geological, geophysical and engineering tasks of the highest standards, drive Joint Venture program direction, keeping abreast of project activity and progress, and reporting activities.
  • Staying abreast of and disseminating relevant geoscience and technologic advances to maintain competitor advantage and technical excellence across the Group.
  • Provide strategic and technical expertise and advice as required on matters relevant to the management of OGC’s global exploration program.
  • Provide leadership to mine site exploration and geology professionals.
  • Collaborate with all groups including Exploration and Geology, Business Development, and Technical and Projects, sharing the same mission.
  • Lead the development of the annual Greenfields planning and budget and ensure all Greenfields Projects operate according to approved budgets and deadlines.
  • Apply, and be an advocate for, the Company's values and environmental, health and safety vision and policies.


Qualifications


  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology, together circa 20 years of progressive mining experience and a strong emphasis in exploration, discovery, mineral economics, strategy and leadership.
  • A strong foundation in geology, gold and copper-gold deposit models.
  • Extensive demonstrated previous experience spanning both brownfields and greenfields exploration with a strong demonstrated track record of value creation in both gold and copper-gold deposits.
  • In-depth technical experience in exploration for gold and copper-gold deposits and exploration methodologies.
  • Ability to deliver high level concise business-focused presentations and reports.
  • Strong demonstrated passion for exploration strategy, mineral deposit geology and their discovery.
  • Commercially astute with excellent data and business analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to build strategic plans, execute those plans, and deliver significant results.
  • Energetic and field-oriented with a clear and personable communication style.
