Vice President of Engineering

Sturgeon County, AB

As the Vice-President Engineering, you will lead alignment of engineering with the company strategic direction to develop and commercialize disruptive technologies.

What you’ll do:

  • Take ownership of all engineering activities including design, development, production and testing.
  • Implement and maintain overall engineering objectives and initiatives. Conduct research and solve performance/operational issues to improve development efficiency.
  • Build and lead a high-performing multi-disciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Oversee a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget.
  • Establish strong relationships with regulatory and standards bodies to help develop standards for new disruptive technology, as well as collaborate with partners in both our supply chain and manufacturing.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead and mentor employees performing engineering activities and oversee all aspects of product development.
  • Manage alignment of engineering and project priorities to company objectives.
  • Take a leading role in the company's intellectual property development such as patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
  • Develop and drive project and process plans, implements policies and procedures tied to operational goals.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies to drive product innovation and quality improvement.
  • Support and enable engineering leads in maintaining or accelerating project timelines and resource management, ensuring projects are completed on time and budget.
  • Ensure that all products meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Lead technical engagement with standards and regulatory bodies in development of new standards for breakthrough technologies and communicate to internal stakeholders to support company success.
  • Provides guidance on technical approaches and strategies within product development and project management company wide.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback to maximize employee growth and assist employees in developing their career path/development goals.
  • Drive daily objectives with engineering teams, identifying and mitigating roadblocks with Engineering Leads as required.
  • Other administrative tasks including project reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher education in Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in engineering management.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects. PMP Certification preferred.
  • Experience with engineering change management systems (ECR/ECO process, etc.)
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team of multidiscipline engineers is required.
  • Experience managing software engineers/developers would be an asset.
  • Experience managing a shop for manufacturing would be an asset.
  • Experience working with government funding organizations would be an asset.
  • Aviation knowledge would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to tailor delivery to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aerospace or robotics familiarity through experience or education.
  • Registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA.
  • Strong product management experience would be an asset.
  • Demonstrable experience architecting product roadmaps aligned with standards and certifications.
